SURFING

We have been on the coast moving down from one famous bay to another with beautiful weather. I have been soaking up the Indian ocean like a sponge because I love the ocean over almost everything else. Then came the dreaded day... surfing.... my worst nightmare. Most of you should know this but the balance, grace, being able to walk along a flat surface without tripping... not my strong points. Needless to say jumping up on a surfboard would not be something I am inherantly good at. Well anyway I got into the ocean in a wetsuit and let myself get clobbered by wave after wave.. and yes had tons of fun. Surfing definately agreed with me a lot better than in Peru. Anyway now we are in Jeffery's bay, back into civilization where I can keep in contact. In coffee bay where we just were we staye at a non for profit hostel organization center place which was awesome. The whole thing was enviromentally friendly and also all the profits went to benefitting the community. We have now entered Xhosa territory and so we took a cultural eco tour of one of the communities where we got to see inside the houses and everything. It has been a preety amazing week. Tomorrow comes more SURFING! and running on the beach. I can definately get used to this.

Hi Miss Meliss, can I still call you that? The surfing sounds amazing--the only thing I have to compare it to is windsurfing and that seems easy now, though I doubt I could do very well on Schroon Lake these days. I second what Susan A. says about you making a big difference in the world one day. Around here we just say you are a "force of nature." Soak it all up, kiddo, it's the experience of a lifetime. Gmom
