So we just spent a week on the sandy beaches of moncora.
You could see the ocean from where we were staying and every opportunity we got we were out at the beach. The whole town was incredibly beautiful and so much fun.
That was where I learned how to surf.... which being a generally uncoordinated person was a difficult feet. But i got up and rode a couple waves before i went back to fry myself in the sun. For about 3 days all of us looked like lobsters because we burn our faces and the backs of our legs so bad from being on a surfboard. Other than that moncora was uneventful, Heathers brother (my teacher) came up to visit for a while and bought us oreos, needless to say he fit right in haha. He taught a pretty sweet history class to.
Then we had a 24 hour bus ride (GASP!) it was not the best sleep ive ever got in my life but we mad it to Huaraz safely. We got our laptop computer and a pair of boots stolen on the bus so weve all learned to be extremely careful with out things. Now we are in Huaraz where it is about 40 degrees colder and 10000 meters higher, I miss the beach a little but once we leave the city to head out on the santa cruz trek it is supposed to be very beautiful here. Until we leave nothing to exciting in supposed to go down, only school and some time in the city and working on our midterms.
Hopefully I will have some amazing stories to tell about the Santa Cruz trek in a couple weeks, wish me luck with a bizillion pound backpack on my back haha.
Miss you all
Love melissa

Hey there!
I can just see you surfing... I think you mean it was a difficult feat (as in accomplishment) but perhaps it was a difficult feet (as in staying upright on them?) Anyhow-- it sounds amazing. Keep the news coming you can -- for those of us stuck in the dreary Adirondack Spring aka Mud Season. Grandma and Grandpa are in Costa Rica. I can't wait to hear of their adventures.
Love and Miss You so Much!
Mom
Hi kiddo, Back from Costa Rica and the biggest adventure I had was getting a bunch of drugs from Dr. Johnny Gonzales who diagnosed me with bronchitis on the second day of our trip. Managed to recover in time to catch up with the group the next day. Lots of photos, mostly of places where the monkeys, toucans, iguanas USED to be just before I snapped the shutter. Volcanoes were easier--they didn't move. Anyway, everything you guys are doing sounds absolutely incredible. Can't wait to see you. Gmom
